The Report Server Project template creates the new project and then stops without
running any wizards. This is the starting point employed in this chapter. Notice in
Figure 10-1 the Report Server Project template has been chosen. The name of this
project will be Analysis Reports; a space in the name of the project isn??™t always
smart, but it??™s easy enough to work with as will be shown throughout this chapter.
Note also that there is a location on the local drive; just like PerformancePoint Server,
Reporting Services creates a local copy of all the files for the development process.
These files are then deployed to the server where they are made available to others
and eventually executed. At this point, the project is not asking for the name of the
server to which the reports will be deployed, and this setting will be examined later.
Once the new project is created, the view of the project in the Solution Explorer
window is relatively simple, as there are only two folders: Shared Data Sources and
Reports. Right-clicking on the Shared Data Sources folder and selecting Add New
Data Source opens the Shared Data Source dialog box as shown in Figure 10-2. The
name of the data source should reflect the data that is being accessed and in Figure 10-2,
Figure 10-2 The Shared Data Source dialog box allows developers to create a data
source that will feed data to the report.
