Fortunately, it??™s possible to move the
PivotChart to another spreadsheet while leaving it linked to the same PivotTable.
Simply right-clicking on a blank area of the chart shows an option on the menu
labeled Move Chart. Selecting this item opens a Move Chart dialog box and
allows the user to move the PivotChart elsewhere on the same worksheet or to a
new worksheet. Moving to a new spreadsheet works well and the PivotChart and
PivotTable remain linked; a change in one will be reflected in the other.
Summary
In the past, companies wanting to provide analytics tools to users had two options:
buy a full-featured, third-party analytics program, or give users a weak analytics
tool in the form of Microsoft Excel. Fortunately, this is no longer a problem because
Excel 2007 provides vastly more powerful analytics than previous versions. While it
is not as powerful as ProClarity or some third-party applications, it is now powerful
enough for the majority of users in a business. In addition, it is a familiar application
to almost everyone in business and is therefore a comfortable environment for
people to use while analyzing data.
Like ProClarity, Excel 2007 includes a variety of chart types to help with data
analysis. The combination of the charts and the formatting options available to both
the PivotChart and PivotTable make Excel 2007 a powerful, highly-customizable
analytics tool. And now, with Excel Services, PivotTable reports can be published to
the server for easier consumption by others.
