Figure 9-13 shows the various types of conditional formatting that can be applied,
and these types are also described in Table 9-1.
Figure 9-13 shows the results of choosing to apply green Data Bars to the value
area of the PivotTable. This was done by selecting all the value cells (not including the
grand totals) and then selecting the green data bars from the Conditional Format, Data
Bars menu. The cells clearly show the bars, with long bars representing higher values.
Multiple rules can be applied to cells, although changing the background or
foreground colors in multiple rules can lead to confusion. Clearing the rules is as
simple as clicking on the Conditional Formatting button and choosing Clear Rules.
This gives the options of clearing all the rules in the spreadsheet or just the rules for
the selected cells.
While conditional formatting includes icons similar to the indicators in
PerformancePoint Server, it is possible to use KPIs that are embedded in Analysis
Services cubes. These KPIs may or may not be the same as used in PerformancePoint
Server scorecards, as PerformancePoint Server may contain its own KPIs that are not
reflected in the cube. Regardless, in order to use KPIs found in cubes, the user need
only select KPIs from the Field List. The KPIs appear just after the measures, and each
KPI consists of four separate items: Value, Goal, Status, and Trend. Each of these acts
like a separate measure, so they can be placed on the PivotTable independently of each
Conditional Format Description
Highlight Cells Rules These rules are very similar to the exception highlighting found in the ProClarity Desktop
Professional client and they allow for highlighting to be applied if numbers are greater than,
less than, equal to, between, or one of several other options.
