"Business Intelligence with Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007"

Imagine a scenario where each division has its own
model and does its own forecasting and budgeting. These divisions might have
different rules for when things should be done, but when each is completed they
could have an association with a master model that is company-wide, with the data
from each division moved into the master model via associations.
PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel
The PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel is a tool that plays two primary purposes.
First, it allows for the creation of business reports and form templates. Form templates
can be created that define that data that will be entered, the way it will look, and the
rules that apply to it. Second, the add-in allows users to enter plan data and push it to
the Planning server. The benefits of having an Excel add-in are obvious: most people
using the Planning server will be intimately familiar with Excel, and because they are
working in a comfortable environment they will face a very small learning curve. In
addition, Excel provides powerful formatting, macros, cell formatting, and other great
features that can be incorporated in the form templates.
Creating Reports and Forms
The form templates that are available under the Forms workspace within the
Planning Business Modeler are created using the PerformancePoint Add-in for
Excel. This section explains in detail how the business reports are created in Excel
and published as Form Templates to the PPS Planning Server.
The PerformancePoint menu is available in Excel on a computer where the
PerformancePoint Add-in for Excel is installed.
