It is important to note that the user-defined dimension member
properties cannot be deleted after they are created and saved.
Loading Dimension Data
There are four commonly used ways for loading members into dimensions within
a PPS Planning Application. The choice of the data loading method depends on
the volume, the original source, the complexity, and the volatility of the dimension
data. The following sections will explain each of the commonly used data loading
mechanisms with examples.
Direct Data Entry The dimension member data can be directly entered to the
dimension from the Member Maintenance tab in the dimension workspace. The
direct data entry method is recommended for dimensions that have few members
that are fairly static, and where the dimension data cannot be derived from any other
sources including an existing data warehouse. The Scenario dimension is selected to
demonstrate direct data entry method in this chapter.
The first step is direct data entry method is to check out the Scenario dimension
by clicking the Check Out link from the Dimension Tasks pane. After checking out
the dimension, select the Member Maintenance tab in the dimension workspace.
In the next step, go to the Actions menu and select action New Sibling. This will
add a new member to the Scenario dimension with the Name and Label values of
NewMember1, as shown in the top half of Figure 7-18. You can then double click
on the text NewMember1 under the Name column and change the name to Actual.
