What products has Jos?© ordered? To
find out, the developer can right-click on the Jos?©??™s box and choose Drill Down, then
Product Categories, and then Product. This will now show all the products that relate

just to this customer. This cross-drilling capability is incredibly powerful, as it allows
a user to easily investigate data across multiple dimensions, all within the decomp.
There is no need to return to the Setup Panel to perform this advanced analysis; in
fact, changes in the Setup Panel have no affect on the decomp. Figure 6-45 shows the
selection described here being made.
In the previous example, the user cross-drilled on the lowest level of the
Customer Geography dimension, but a cross-drill can actually occur at any level.
I have worked with customers that use the decomp almost exclusively, drilling
from geography to reseller to product to customer, all the while analyzing costs and
revenue. This customer finds the decomp ideally suited for their end users because
it requires minimal training (the Setup Panel isn??™t required) and it has great impact.
If, at any time, a user wants to drill down a different chain that is three levels up,
they can simply click on a box on that higher level and move the drill down to that
member. In this particular example, the user has chosen the largest boxes to drill
down for some time.
