Later in this chapter,
various views will be saved into what is called a briefing book, and some customers
use the Internet Explorer to link to documents that explain the views the user is about
to explore. The other three views are explained in the following sections.
The Decomposition Tree The Decomposition Tree, or ???decomp??? for short, is an
advanced view that ProClarity developed and patented early in their history. It is a
useful view in many ways because it shows a history of the drilling path a person has
followed. In fact, it is the only view that can keep a full history of the viewing path
unless a person is in a grid and always chooses to expand rather than drill down.
Choosing to start a decomp from the menu launches the Decomposition Tree
Wizard. The decomp can break down a single measure at a time and breaks it down
by a single hierarchy to start, although the user is free to change the hierarchy being
drilled at any point while working with the decomp. Note that there is a section on
the first page of the wizard labeled ???Starting with??? and that this section shows the
current values for all of the dimensions, as shown in Figure 6-43. The values shown
Figure 6-43 The Decomposition Tree wizard, including the Grouping Items Editor used to
