It??™s not surprising to see KPIs and
Scorecards, but note that Reports are also shown as first-class objects. You should
realize that whatever is listed as being in the workspace is a local copy to which
changes can be made without affecting server items. No local changes reach the
server until the items are published.

On the ribbon bar is a Refresh button that will query the server to find existing
data sources, dashboards, KPIs, and so forth. Clicking this button will populate the
lists that show up in the middle area, called the Workspace area, where the Server
and Workspace tabs are located. If this is a new server, of course, nothing will show
up in the lists. Once there are existing objects published to the server, they will show
up in the lists only after the Refresh button is clicked.
Creating Data Sources
Right-clicking on the Data Sources node in the Workspace Browser brings up a
context menu with the option to create a new data source. Choosing this option
opens the Select a Data Source Template dialog box. This dialog breaks down the
connection types into three categories: Multidimensional, Standard Queries, and
Tabular Lists. There is also an All node that will show all of the different data source
templates at once in the Template pane of the dialog box.
The multidimensional templates folder includes a single template for Analysis
Services.
